Bass flute
Hugh started flute at school with Maija Lielausis, continuing for a few years with Evelyn Frank before work got in the way and the flute stayed in its case.
He returned to it in middle age, studying with Anna Hopkins, and now plays bass flute regularly with Orpheus Flutes, a flute quartet performing chamber and operatic repertoire arranged for flute consort, and with Mirliton Flutes.
Hugh started to play the bass flute a few years ago and very quickly put down all the other flutes to concentrate on it. He loves the sound it can make and enjoys its role in a consort.
